ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister’s daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif says women face domestic violence in Pakistan: Maryam Nawaz
While addressing a three day International Conference on "The Role of Women Parliamentarians in Strengthening Democracy and Social Justice” in Islamabad, Maryam Nawaz stresses, “We will have to take women out of the atmosphere of fear and poverty.”
Women are playing a central role in the world biggest companies, she adds.
She argues women parliamentarians can bring a massive change e in the society, adding Malala Yousafzai is the youngest Pakistan to have received a noble prize.
Maryam Nawaz said though Pakistani women possesses an equal rights in Pakistan (in some areas), yet they are confronted with challenges of honor killing and domestic violence including physical and mental torture.
She congratulated all the participants in the event organized by The Women’s Parliamentary Caucus in Pakistan.
The Conference was organized in order to provide a platform to women parliamentarians for assessing the issues of women in Pakistan and brings out with a mandate to empower women of their respective constituencies.
Women Parliamentarians from twelve countries including Pakistan, Myanmar, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Australia, Romania, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal and Indonesia took part in the Conference
