UMERKOT – A sanitary worker died due to fast and the doctors refused to touch his ‘unclean’ body in Umerkot on Thursday.
The man 30-year old Irfan Masih fell unconscious along with other three workers while cleaning manhole on Chorr Road in Umerkot.
He died in the government in front of doctors who refused to care him because his body was drenched in sewage sludge.
Despite the incident, many workers had died in the same manhole; it claimed the life of 25-year-old Krishan Gujrati and 28-year-old Nawaz Masih, in September 2012.
Local people pulled out the workers from the manhole and shifted them to the nearest government hospital.
“The doctors refused to treat him because they were fasting and said my son was ‘napaak [unclean]’,” claimed Irshad Masih, the mother of the deceased, as quoted by Tribune.
The brother of Iran Masih, Pervez Masih said that he had cleaned the body himself; doctors send an empty cylinder of oxygen for the patient.
