LAHORE – The Punjab government employees will get 10 percent pay raise in the budget 2017-18.
Punjab Finance Minister Ayesha Ghaus Pasha presented the Rs 1,937 billion budget for the new fiscal year 2017-18 on Friday.
Presenting the budget, Ayesha Pasha announced a 10 percent increase in the salaries of the government employees.
The government has imposed a 5percent tax on the gift property.
An amount of Rs 635 billion has been allocated for the Development Program, while Rs 93 billion has been reserved for the Orange Line project.
A sum of Rs 20.50 billion has been allocated for the Higher Education Commission.
On the other hand, the opposition members wearing black armbands attended the budget session and resorted to hooliganism. They continued to thump desks throughout the budget speech.
The Treasury encouraged the finance minister saying ‘Well, well’.
Earlier, Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair summoned the budget session 2017-18 of the Sindh Assembly on June 5.
A notification was issued the other day in this regard. According to the notification, the session will commence at around 3pm on Monday.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who also holds the finance department portfolio, will present the budget.
A meeting of the Sindh cabinet will be held before the session to approve the supplementary budget of the current year and new proposals for the upcoming fiscal year 2017-18.
It would be interesting to see how Sindh government treats metropolitan city, Karachi in its last budget.
