ISLAMABAD – A large number of Pakistanis on Wednesday received a text message from the government which warned them against sharing of blasphemous content on social media.

The rightist responded that the action of government will encourage the more vigilant attacks to form the extremists.

“Uploading & sharing of blasphemous content on the Internet is a punishable offense under the law. Such content should be reported on for legal action,” read the SMS sent by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to all mobile phone subscribers, as quoted by Samaa News.

The same sort of message has posted on the official website of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the officials told media that the Authority is implementing on court’s order.

Blasphemy is a sensitive issue in Pakistan, dozens of cases reported in which mob killed persons who were suspected blasphemers since 1990.

The blasphemy law which sentenced death penalty over the crime was strengthened by the dictator Zia-ul-Haq in 1986, although mob killed the alleged blasphemers every time before the prosecution.

Activists showed concerns over the text and said that this will increase the on-going extremism in the state.
