NEW DELHI – The Indian Army has on Monday honored the major who had used a Kashmiri man as a ‘human shield’ to protect himself from stone-pelters, with a military award for his ‘bravery’.
Gogoi used a man as a human shield on April 9 by covering him by a rope with the bonnet of the jeep to be saved from the protesting mob.
The video of the incident had gone viral and millions had seen that video, the police registered FIR after the incident.
Indian army had constituted a committee for the inquiry of incident on April 15.
The Army’s announcement comes after the day when veteran actor and a leader of BJF Paresh Rawal said that author Arundhati should be tied with the jeep instead of stone-pelter.
“Instead of tying stone pelter on the army jeep tie Arundhati Roy (sic)!” the actor-politician tweeted, taking a swipe at the author who has been a trenchant critic of the BJP and the Army action in the Valley, as quoted by News Maldives.
The tweet was condemned by many politicians some accuse him of inciting violence.
