BEIJING – At least 7 people have been killed and 59 are wounded in a blast that hit a kindergarten in eastern China, international media reported.
The blast took place as children were being picked up from school in the city of Xuzhou in Jiangsu province on Thursday, police said.
Mobile phone camera footage posted on the website of the official People’s Daily newspaper showed more than a dozen people lying motionless in front of the nursery’s steel sliding gate.
The force of the blast tore the clothes off some of the people lying on the ground beside pools of blood.
An official at the police station in Fengxian county in Jiangsu province told AFP that the explosion was under investigation.
“There were some children injured,” the official said.
The blast occurred at the gate of the kindergarten as children were leaving the school in the afternoon, according to Xinhua, citing the emergency office of Xuzhou city. – AFP
